What you’ll do:
We are seeking a Category Manager – Wholesale Growth to drive API's wholesale growth strategy across new and existing OTC categories on a 12-month fixed-term contract, covering a parental leave. Reporting to the Senior Category Manager – Wholesale OTC, this is a highly commercial role with responsibility for identifying new growth opportunities, building strategic supplier partnerships, and delivering category initiatives that create value for API, pharmacy customers and consumers.
Working across a diverse network that includes Priceline Pharmacy, Pharmacist Advice, Club Premium, Soul Pattinson Chemist and other independent pharmacy groups, you will play a key role in expanding category participation, commercialising growth programs, and supporting the delivery of a refreshed managed services proposition for pharmacy customers.
Other responsibilities include:
- Lead the identification and onboarding of new categories, supplier brands and growth opportunities across the wholesale channel
- Manage the DTS-to-DC conversion pipeline, negotiating trading terms and bringing new brands into the wholesale distribution model
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of new supplier partnerships, conducting commercial assessments and prioritising growth opportunities
- Own EBIT delivery across allocated growth categories, managing margin performance, buying terms and stock productivity
- Commercialise the My API platform by translating customer participation insights into structured Joint Business Planning (JBP) frameworks with suppliers
- Build strong relationships across suppliers, Business Development Managers, Finance, Pricing, Supply Operations and Retail Category teams to deliver shared commercial outcomes
If you're commercially minded, passionate about category growth, and excited by the opportunity to influence strategy across Australia's leading wholesale pharmacy network, we'd love to hear from you.
What you’ll bring:
- Proven experience in category management, buying or commercial roles within wholesale, pharmacy, FMCG or retail environments
- Demonstrated experience managing P&L accountability and supplier negotiations
- Experience in a wholesale or distribution environment desirable; pharmacy or health sector experience an advantage
- Strong strategic thinking capability – able to identify growth opportunities, construct a coherent commercial case and execute
- Commercially astute with sound understanding of wholesale trading mechanics, margin management and investment buying
- Proven ability to influence a wide and challenging stakeholder group without direct authority, including supplier partners, BDMs, independent pharmacy customers and internal commercial teams
- Analytical rigor: ability to interpret category performance data, identify root causes and develop evidence-based recommendations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite; experience with wholesale or ERP systems advantageous
- Tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Finance, Procurement or related discipline
